Hani M., Brooklyn, NY

I tore my ACL (for the second time) skiing in Swiss Alps in January 2016. Got Dr. MacGillivray's reference from a friend who is a health care professional himself. Upon return from Switzerland, I managed to get an appointment to see Dr. MacGillivray almost immediately. He was straightforward and very professional. The office managed to get me an appointment for an MRI the same day and Dr. MacGillivray looked at the results and was clear that the ACL is gone. We set a date 3 weeks later for the surgery.

Having done ACL reconstruction once before (in NYC as well), I knew how much pain and agony awaits me. So I was super nervous. Leading up to the surgery, I could hardly sleep at night (from the anxiety of the pain that awaits me).

On the day of the surgery, I was in and out in half a day. Everything went super fast and I was surprised at how little pain I am feeling the first day. But I was sure once the medication wears off, I will be in pain. Much to my surprise, I had so little pain the following days that I only had to take pain medication before going to bed (except for the first couple of days). Also, in about a week from the surgery, I started gradually putting weight on the knee and the more I used it, the more I realized that I can do it.

I am now three months post-op, and can go about my day with mild activity without even feeling my knee. I started biking and swimming a few weeks after the surgery. I am now cleared to almost do anything I want. In short, recovery from this surgery has been not even half as difficult as the first ACL reconstruction I had 8 years ago.

Dr. MacGillivray is a skillful surgeon and I highly recommend him.
